Despite the controversies regarding Pacquiao, his bout with Clottey is scheduled to be sold out.
Bob Arum in the press conference for the undercards, jokingly credited David Diaz for the success of the event since Manny’s meteoric rise to super stardom began after he defeated the former lightweight champion. For more of what Arum has to say read the transcript of the interview below.
OS: Bob, considering the steroid issue, are you surprise by the turn out of Filipino fans, that despite it being in Cowboys stadium with 45k seating capacity that its scheduled to be sold out.
BA: No, no if Manny Pacquiao were fighting in Alaska, we would have a tremendous number of Filipino fans.
OS: As far as the fight, do you think it’s going to be more competitive than people are expecting?
BA: Of course, it’s going to be a very competitive fight. Clottey is bigger and stronger. Manny is more skillful. It’s going to be a very very good fight.
OS: If Manny happens to win this fight. Where do you think it place him in history as far as the all time greats.
BA: I think right now, he’s the best fighter I’ve seen. He will definitely be an all time great.
OS: As far as the undercard is concerned. What fight has the chance to steal the show? There are a lot of great fights in the undercard.
BA: I don’t know. I think the Alfonso Gomez, Castillo fight is going to be a barn burner.
OS: Also the Humberto Soto and David Diaz.
BA: All good fights.
OS: As far as John Duddy, is there a fight with Kelly Pavlik in the future?
BA: If he gets by Medina. If he does, then maybe we’ll match him with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in June.
OS: Is there a chance that we may see him against Kelly Pavlik?
BA: Yeah, maybe.
OS: Thank you Bob.
