Los Angeles, CA-2000 Olympian Brian Viloria, 108 lbs., captured the WBC light flyweight title with a devastating first round knockout of defending champion Eric Ortiz.
DON’T EVER HOOK WITH A HOOKER!
With the kid from Hawaii taking it to Ortiz, 108, the Mexican made the error of standing and trying to “hook with a hooker.” And while some think Viloria is not a puncher, believe me when I say Eric Ortiz is not one of them. As Brian seized the initiative, Ortiz thought he could out brawl the now 18-0, “Hawaiian Punch.” Big mistake, for a guy so little!
FIRST ROUND NO HAGLER-HEARNS..
With the round looking like it would be Viloria’s on points, Erik took a one-two, left-right combination that forced him into a defensive mode, as he was obviously bothered (hurt). With “blood” in the water, Viloria responded like the fighter I have always thought he was. Moving forward, another one-two combination put Ortiz down.
THE ROUND WAS OFFICIALLY OVER!
As Ortiz rose, he was wobbling, and in danger of being seriously hurt had the contest continued. Referee Raul Caiz Jr., he looked at Ortiz, and opted to stop the match. The official time was 2:59 of round one. With the win, comes KO #12 and the WBC title that Brian has dreamed about since he was a kid.
GOOD PERSON, CREDIT TO US HUMANS!
Boxing could not have a better “person” representing it, than this Filipino-American Viloria, who is managed by Gary Gittlesohn, and trained by Freddie Roach. Managed by Fernando Beltran, who handles main event top draw Erik Morales, Ortiz drops to 24-5-1, (16 KO’s).
“BOOM-BOOM” DOES HIS THING AS WELL!
Ray “Boom-Boom” Bautista, 117, Candijay, Bohol, Philippines, was a KO winner in three over a hapless schmo in Felix Murillo, 117, Mexico. Only 19, Rey is now 17-0, with 13 KO’s.
