GENERAL SANTOS CITY- The head of the amateur boxing group here said that ring idol Manny Pacquiao would be able to demolish Hector Velasquez during their fight in Los Angeles, California today.
Rey Golingan, local chair of the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines-Gensan chapter, said that “barring any accident, I am confident Manny will win. The fight would not last long,” Golingan, who served as Pacquiao’s boss during his days as amateur boxer here, said.
Golingan came up with the prediction, even if he admitted that stamina could be one possible hindrance to Pacquiao’s victory over Velasquez.
He said Pacquiao came from a long vacation from the gym after his loss to Mexican boxer Erik Morales in March.
“He was so busy with so many things,” Golingan said. “He only trained for a month.”
Ideally, he said a boxer needs at least 45 days of training in preparation for a fight because less than that would be cramming.
Manny went back to training only last August.
Golingan said he was hoping that Manny’s guts and determination would compensate for his lack of adequate training.
“Manny was one of my wards during his amateur days. He was not a promising fighter then. But unlike his peers, he had the guts, focus and determination,” he said.
Golingan said Pacquiao should really try his best to win or he would become a laughing stock to both Erik Morales and Marco Antonio Barrera.
“If he is defeated in this fight, he would be snubbed both by Barrera and Morales,” he said.
