Arum on Darchinyan-Donaire II: How much cash for the Filipino Flash?

HOLLYWOOD—How much cash for the Filipino Flash?

While blabbermouth Big Gary Shaw has been huffing and puffing about Bob Arum not returning his phone calls to make a rematch between Nonito Donaire and Vic Darchinyan, Arum said Thursday at the Wild Card Gym he’d had no reason to communicate because he’s waiting on Shaw.

“What the fluck is he talking about? The whole business is ludcrious, really,” Arum said. “Gary is Darchinyan’s promoter and Gary got the connection to Showtime. I have been waiting for Gary to call me and tell me what Showtime is willing to pay. If the price is right, they’ve got a rematch and Nonito will knock Darchinyan out a second time.”

Arum had earlier stated that Darchinyan-Nonaire II, a rematch of a July 7, 2007, Bridgeport, Ct., bout in which Donaire starched the Aussie in five rounds, does not have “enough legs” to make it a pay per view TV bout.

“It’s Shaw that has to come with the price, not me, so let him call me and the fight can possibly be made.”

Arum spent a second day watching top client Manny Pacquiao work at the Wild Card Gym. Pacman sparred Thursday and continued to look razor sharp going into his March 13 title defense in Dallas against Joshua Clottey.

“I am staying over Friday for Coach Freddie Roach’s 50th birthday party,” Arum said.

Darchinyan fights lightly regarded, 13-1 Rodrigo Guerrero Saturday night on Showtime.
