HOLLYWOOD–His undefeated record is so precious to him they might have to put an emotionally fragile Floyd Mayweather Jr. on suicide watch if Sugar Shane Mosley.
If such a ring miracle occurs, if the 38 year old Mosley, they might have to put Money May in a rubber room and keep him away from all sharp objects.
But not to fear as Mayweather does have handy dandy little bit of boxing insurance in his pocket already for that fight.
It’s a rematch clause and Mayweather demanded it of Mosley in order to make the match.
Is it Mayweather being business smart or it a sign of fistic fear?
I will let you be the judge but Bob Arum assures me that there is no such rematch clause between Manny Pacquiao, gearing up for his 56th pro bout, and Joshua Clottey.
“No rematch clause, none,” Arum said Wednesday at the Wild Card Gym. “I don’t like rematch clauses. If Clottey wins, if it’s a good fight, we can revisit the situation but Manny did not ask for a rematch clause. He’s not as insecure as Floyd is.
“I keep telling you guys that Floyd is a coward. That random blood drug testing business was designed to do two things. One, Floyd thought he could get into Manny’s head and, two, when he didn’t accomplish that, it gave him a way out of the fight.”
Mosley was smirking when he replied on video camera to AOL Fanhouse reporter Lem Satterfield’s question about the rematch clause at the Wednesday Washington press conference.
“There is some concern there,” Mosley said, “there is some concern about him losing the fight., what other reason would there be for it.”
Mayweather may call it an insurance policy but others, like Arum, would label it a show of lack of confidence.
There could be another analysis. If he fights twice against Mosley, and doesn’t look to Pacman again until 2011, maybe Mayweather thinks the Pinoy Idol will be off the scene.
That’s a permanent way out of the fight that fans are clamoring for the world over.
