DALLAS, TX – Manny Pacquiao just has to finish up today’s exhausting, zoo – like atmosphere of “Media Day” at the Wild Card and then on the 8th he heads to Dallas and the March 13 battle with Joshua Clottey at celebrated Cowboys Stadium and HBO PPV.
At dinner Monday night at Nat’s Thai Food, a very relaxed Pacquiao answered my probing questions about all things Dallas.
“I have never seen anything like the (Cowboys) Stadium,” said Pacquiao while blowing on his soup. “I still can’t believe it. The stadium is amazing. I still can’t believe something so grand has been built.
“Jerry Jones (owner of the Dallas Cowboys football team and the $1.15 billion stadium in nearby Arlington) is a very classy man. A very gentle, nice man. That is what I remember of him from meeting him at the press conference there,” said Pacquiao while munching on something I hope was chicken.
Pacquiao has fought in Texas twice. Both times inside the San Antonio Alamodome.
“I really enjoyed San Antonio. Dallas I’m sure will be just as great. I can’t wait to get there,” he added.
Moving on to other subjects, Pacquiao was very opinionated and philosophical.
“I want to fight Floyd Mayweather. But if he won’t fight me, I can’t do anything about it. I have had a fine career without him. I don’t need him. It’s my time now. He doesn’t set good examples.
“Running for Congress is what I want to do because you really deal with the people who need help. Not like being president.
“I don’t want to say I’m a great fighter, just a good fighter.
“I give all credit to God and my fans. Without the fans we have nothing. Without the people I’m not popular. If nobody sees or supports your talent then you have nothing.
“You have to lose in boxing to later improve and wake up. It’s very important for me to be a good example to children.
“What I have God gave to me so I give back.”
