This Saturday at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut, former junior lightweight titleholder Steve Forbes will begin his quest to capture another world title in a new weight division as he competes as a junior welterweight on the the undercard of the Devon Alexander – Juan Urango title unification clash.
In preparation for the fight, Forbes has been training at the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood and acting as a sparring partner for pound for pound king Manny Pacquiao. Despite being a newcomer to the gym, Forbes seemingly fits right in.
This past week, Forbes celebrated his 33rd birthday. As he walked out of the dressing room at the Wild Card, trainer and gym owner Freddie Roach lead the entire gym in a rendition of “Happy Birthday” in honor of Forbes. Pacquiao, who was in the ring shadow boxing and warming up, even joined in on the action and as everyone clapped and cheered upon the songs completion, Pacquiao went to give the birthday boy a fist pound.
While Forbes was clearly appreciative of the love he received from the gym, he’ll be more appreciative with a win this Saturday. He’ll be taking on Harrison Cuello (18-12, 14 KO’s) in hopes of landing a shot at the winner of Alexander – Urango at some point down the line.
