Before a sold out house in the Ruben Rodriguez Coliseum in Bayamon Puerto Rico Wilfredo Vazquez jr (18-0, 15 Kos) captured the WBO junior featherweight title with a 4th round knockout of Marvelous Marvin Sonsona (14-1, 12Kos) . Vazquez’ superior strength and power were evident early in the fight as the straight right was shaking and hurting Sonsona as early as the second round, and continued to do so in the third. The end to the fight came in the fourth when Vazquez would trap the young Filipino on the ropes and unleashed a straight right hand that went straight through Sonsonas guard and found its mark followed by a crushing left hook to the body that sent Sonsona cringing in pain to the ground. A jubiliant Papito, as Vazquez is called, would drop to the his knees in a strong display of emotion while his hometown fans would cheer with sounds of music and chorus of “Papito Puede!!!”; Papito can! Overall it was an electric crowd that came out to support one of their own, and Vazquez rewarded their support with a great victory. With the win Vazquez joins his father as the first son and dad to both have become champions in the island’s proud boxing history.
EASY WORK FOR THE 2008 OLYMPIANS
On the same card three ex members of the Puerto Rican Olympic team of 2008 made success outings tonight. McJoe Arroyo was the first to step in the ring and made short work of his over matched opponent Giovanni Rivera with a vicious left in the second round of what was his professional debut.
His twin brother McWilliams who was also making his professional debut was not to be outdone and finished his opponent, Eliecer Sanchez, with a devastating right at 1:46 in the first round.
Cruiserweight Carlos Negron(8-0, 6Kos) who looked gigantic next to his foe came away with knockout in the first round when his opponent, Roy Ashworth, could not beat the count after getting dropped for a third time.
OQUENDO BEATS BERANZA FOR A SECOND TIME BUT THE WIN IS NOT EASIER
In what was for the most part an all out brawl Jonathan “Polvo” Oquendo was able to come away with a unanimous decision over Jose Angel Beranza by scores of 118-108, 114-112, 117-109. Oquendo, who was facing Beranza for second time after having beat the Mexican also by unanimous a year ago, was able to land a strong left hook in the first round that sent Beranza to the canvas. However, if Oquendo thought he would have a quick and easy night it turned to be anything, but that. Beranza would battle Oquendo for 12 rounds, and although the Puerto rican clearly won the majority of rounds he was also visibly the weaker fighter in the latter rounds and had to resort to boxing and moving to hold on to his lead. With the win Oquendo improved to 18-2 with 11 Kos, while Beranza dropped to 32-17 with 25 Kos

Luis Joel Gonzales improved his record to 3-0 with 2 nocauts with a 4th round knock out over Efigenio Perez .
Giovani Rodriguez (2-0, 2 Kos) mainted his unblemished record with a first round knock of his opponent Marcos Adorno (0-2). The official time of the stoppage was 58 seconds of the first round.
In the opening bout Osenohad Vazquez (2-1) takes a unanimous decision over Jorge Perez Adorno (1-2) with all judges seeing the fight for the winner by scores of 39-37.
