I know, you were probably expecting to see “Calling A Spade A Spade” this week. Well, let’s call a spade a spade then… it wasn’t ready. Oops. I sent out some research questions and had not received all the responses necessary to continue.
But I hardly miss the chance to shine in the spotlight, so at 5:40pm I’m claiming my 15 Minutes of Fame!

— I’m switching formats today because I have a really good “Calling A Spade A Spade” in the works that most of us will agree with. Can’t say much more than that yet.
— Happy anniversary to Mr. and Mrs. Raul Martinez! The former NABO super flyweight champion and wife celebrated their wedding anniversary on Thursday.
— I don’t know what’s sadder, the fact that the Klitschko brothers are trying to hock W. Klitschko/Chambers onto us for $14.95 on the Internet, or the fact that no one is going to buy it. We’re turning down a heavyweight title fight and full undercard at the price of fifteen bucks. That’s it. When was the last time you saw a pay-per-view that low? But internet only? The fight got no support from the premium channels, and didn’t get a save from the basic cable channels (remember the “Instant Classic” bullsh*t they tried to pass off on us last year?) either. Not even any of the cable systems or satellite systems would consider packaging it up for US pay-per-view. So we’re stuck watching it on the Klitschko’s website. Honestly, if they had said, “We’re putting it in a pay-per-view package, but it’s only $14.95!” I just might have ponied up the dough. I wouldn’t pay $14.95 for damn near anything on Klitschko’s website.
— Move higher amounts of lower-cost product, as opposed to fewer amounts of high-cost product, and that’s how you’re assured a greater return. Basic economics! When will boxing promoters learn this? Boxing will never be mainstream unless it breaks free from this stranglehold that this “Anything For A Buck” mentality has on it.
— “Anything For A Buck…” “Dollars Make Sense…” Help me remember who was the person who made those common cliches in the boxing world… oh wait, I remember now.
— Vivian Harris = Chopped and Screwed. That’s all I have to say about that.
— Manny Pacquiao’s going to be back on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Because the first appearance went so well. Team Pacquiao, could you update him on a few more pop culture references before you send him out there? Missing a “Pac-Man” joke is not good for business.
— I wonder if Pacquiao’s going to sing again. Any requests, readers? Ali Shakoor, would you like to hear anything?
— Jones/Hopkins II… let’s face it, as pointless as it really seems, with Roy Jones Jr losing to Danny Green, and Bernard Hopkins squeaking by Enrique Ornelas… as pointless as it seems, for everyone who says they’re not interested in the fight, I hear a lot of people following that up with, “…but I’m still going to buy it.” Of course you are! Granted, the fight should have happened easily five or more years ago, but we’re still hungry for it! A lot of us are going to be looking at our cable bill later that month going, “Well, that wasn’t cost-effective.”
STOP THE CLOCK! It’s now 5:55pm, and I believe there’s a margarita at my local bar with my name all over it. At least one or two. Or twelve.
