Matt Korobov (R) vs Lamar Harris.

A boxing fan sent me an e-mail late last night asking about the “other” fights in the fight card.

He said, “I can not find the results of the under-card fights. Why don’t you post the results of the whole fight card and perhaps a few photos too?”

Therefore for those who are interested, here is the complete result of the fight card.

Curtain raiser:

Edgar Portillo ( 6-3-1, 4KO) of Midland, Texas fought a very close 6 round draw with Hector Marengo (5-0-1, 3KO) of Arecibo, Puerto Rico. The scores were 58-56, 58-56 and 57-57.

On the second fight, Mark Melligen ( 17-2-0, 13KO) of Bacolod City stopped previously undefeated Raymund Gatica ( 11-1-0, 6KO) of Austin, Texas at 2:36 of the 6th round. Melligen also scored a KD at the 5th round.

Third fight- Jose Benavides ( 2-0-0, 2KO) of Phoenix, Arizona, a new prot?g? of Freddie Roach scored his second KO in as many fights as a pro against John Vega (0-2-0) of Cariso Springs, Texas. Referee stopped the fight at 1:07 in the first round.

Fourth fight- Matt Korobov ( 10-0-0 (7KO) kept his record immaculate by stopping Lamar Harris (6-5-3, 4KO) of St Louis, MO at 1:05 of the first round.

After the fifth fight, there was a lull of more than 20 minutes to accommodate television which started at 6 PM, Las Vegas time. By now everyone who saw the fights on TV know the results.

On the first televised fight Bernabe Concepcion (30-2-1, 17KO) of Rizal, Philippines won via an exciting 10 round fight over the very tough Mario Santiago ( 21-2-1, 14KO) of Ponce, Puerto Rico. Concepcion scored a KD on the 6th round. The scores 98-91,96-93 and 97-92.

Eric Morel (42-2-0, 21KO) of San Juan, Puerto Rico beat Gerry Penalosa ( 54-7-2, 34 KO) of San Carlos City, Philippines via a very controversial split decision. Penalosa suffered facial cuts due to “accidental head butts”. The scores were: 115-113 for Morel, 115-113 for Penalosa and 116-112 for Morel. Many at the ring side thought that Morel was given a “gift” by the judges.

The third televised fight for the evening featured Fernando Motile (40-2-2, 30 KO) against young Ciso Morales (14-1-0,8KO) of Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines. Montiel landed a devastating liver shot on Morales resulting to a KO at 2:06 of the first round. Montiel kept is WBO Bantamweight title.
