Bernabe Concepcion W UD10 Mario Santiago
Rising featherweight Bernabe Concepcion scored a ten round decision victory over a game Mario Santiago to kick things off on the televised broadcast of Top Rank’s “Latin Fury 13 / Pinoy Power 3” pay-per-view card at the Las Vegas Hilton. Concepcion used good in-and-out movement to set up his attack and threw and landed the harder more effective punches early in the fight. Santiago did a good job summoning a high activity rate but he had trouble finding Concepcion with his punches. The Filipino fighter really starting swinging for the fences around the half way point in the fight and in Round 6 he caught Santiago with a huge right hand that dropped the taller Puerto Rican. Santiago survived the round but ultimately couldn’t find an answer to fend off Concepcion’s powerful attack. Concepcion landed the heavier blows with more consistency as the rounds continued and despite a last minute rally from the gallant Puerto Rican, the Pinoy charge was ahead on all three official cards after ten rounds were complete (98-91, 96-93, 97-92). With the win Concepcion improves to 28-3-1 (15 KOs) and has now earned the right to challenge emerging superstar Juan Manuel Lopez later this spring.
