Less than a month since his professional debut at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, 17 year old Jose Benavidez will be returning to Nevada for his second professional bout. Benavidez’ opponent is still uncertain but he will be fighting on the February 13th Pinoy Power 3/Latin Fury 13 card at the Hilton headlined by Nonito Donaire vs. Gerson Guerrero.
Trained by Freddie Roach and having inked a promotional contract with Top Rank, all things seem to be in place for Benavidez to make a fast run in the sport. In his professional debut Benavidez impressed with an 81 second stoppage over outmatched Steven Cox. Benavidez dropped Cox early with a left and finished him off along the ropes moments later. Throughout the brief showcase Benavidez’ poise and offensive efficiency were on full display.
Roach went on to state that he fully believes Benavidez will go on to be a world champion one day. The Phoenix, Arizona native ended up hooking up with Roach at his Wild Card Gym earlier this year after the trainer caught a glimpse of him in sparring. Roach took a vested interest in Benavidez’ career and their union is one that is full of much promise.
