Fish travel in schools but sharks swim alone.
Joe DeGuardia, New York promoter who now runs the fledgling Boxing Promoters Association (BPA), may have forgotten this.
He just got a reminder when the group’s recent meeting in Las Vegas was not attended by any representative of either Top Rank or Golden Boy. Gary Shaw, who controls the Showtime fight pipeline, also did not attend.
Among the promoters who did show up were Lou DiBella, Cedric Kushner and Don Chargin.
While the BPA has big plans, how effective can it be without Oscar de la Hoya’s group or Bob Arum’s company on board?
I hear the BPA is close to adopting an official theme song to be played at the start of all meetings.
