If the Mayweather and Mosley fight comes to fruition then the one thing I want to see the most is for both fighters to take Olympic Style Drug Testing. Because, if there’s ever a fight that needs this type of testing, it is this one and here’s why.
Shane Mosley admitted back in 2007 that he took steroids. His defense was that he unknowingly took them. That he was given steroids and was innocently mixed up in the entire BALCO scandal. “I didn’t know anything about that stuff,” Mosley said to ESPN. “It was something given to me, pushed up on me.”
Floyd Mayweather JR was the one to demand this form of testing in his contractual negotiations with Manny Pacquiao. Mayweather Jr basically said that this testing would put them on an even ground and ensure that Pacquiao was clean.
So, will Mayweather’s camp push for this testing with a known steroids user? And, would Shane Mosley agree to this type of testing? Could either fighter afford not to take this type of drug testing?
In my opinion, Mosley has to agree to this style of testing. He can’t afford to say no. He’s an admitted steroids user. And please, don’t tell me that you didn’t know what you were taking. I’ve been in the health and fitness industry for over 8 years; you know in general what different types of supplements can do.
If Mayweather doesn’t push for this type of testing with a know steroids user, then he will severely damage his reputation with the public. After pushing for this with Manny, and crying about it afterwards, Mayweather would look like a big fool.
Of course, logic doesn’t always follow Mayweather Jr. So, it remains to be seen as to what style of testing would be implemented. And, I wouldn’t hold my breath that this fight will even happen until they actually sign a contract and they step foot in the ring to fight. For all we know, Mayweather Jr could break another rib…
