It’s a fight being labeled as taking place a decade too late in the eyes of millions of boxing fans across the world.
Nevertheless, the oddsmakers have created an opening line on the Bernard Hopkins-Roy Jones Jr. farce of a fight that favors “The Executioner” by a significant margin over his former victor. For those of you that don’t remember, the first meeting between Hopkins and Jones took place on May 22, 1993. It was a fight that lacked any significant drama other than the fact that Jones had allegadly hurt one of his hands early on in the fight and was relegated to pot-shotting the Philadelphian over the latter half of the bout.
Here is the official line for the April 17 Pay-Per-View bout:
April 17, 2009 – Light-heavyweight Fight – Mandalay Bay Events Center, Las Vegas Nevada
Bernard Hopkins -350 (3 1/2 -1 favorite in laymen’s terms) Roy Jones Jr. +250 (2 1/2 -1 underdog in laymen’s terms)
Over 11.5 Rounds -150 Under 11.5 Rounds +110
This fight doesn’t mean a whole lot in the overall landscape of the 175-pound division within boxing being that Roy Jones Jr. was recently demolished in less than one round by Danny Green in December of 2009.
Here is the short video of that defeat:
If I was forced to place my hard earned money on any of the outcomes in regards to this bout, it would most likely be placed on the fight not going the distance being that Roy Jones Jr.’s ability to recover from a clean punch has gone completely downhill.
Then again… Hopkins hasn’t stopped anyone since his knockout body shot of the much smaller Oscar De la Hoya.
I’d recommend that the betting action stay where it should be April 17… right in your back pocket.
