Would anyone except “a punk ass bitch” send this out? Mr. Schaefer, reference to our last conversation regarding blood testing, I would like to ask the following:
What would the penalty be if our guy tested positive?
My second question is:
If he did test positive, could we keep this a secret for the benefit of boxing?
Best regards,
Bob Arum (Sent to Michael Marley by a quick witted reader) Attention seeking ESPN boxing voice Teddy Atlas has, you might say, injected himself into the Pacquiao-Mayweather blood testing controversy. Maybe Atlas, who I know quite well and once hired to train future heavyweight champ Shannon Briggs, is just give Pacman the needle, so to speak. But how can anyone call what Atlas said, which was nothing more or less than an anonymous source item penned by Tim Smith in the New York Daily News on Dec. 25, a smoking gun? If it is a gun, it’s a child’s toy and not any kind of a dangerous weapon. See DSource GMan on why Atlas needs to stop being shy with key details here. See LA Examiner R. Lois on fans react to Floyd-Manny mess at ESPN show in Glendale, CA. See Scott Heritage giving Floyd the needle over use of painkiller xylocaine, you’ve got to hand it to Mayweather in this instance. If it’s a gun, it is a cap pistol like wqe had as little boys. Bang, bang, bang. Unlike the mythical Atlas or bodbuilding guru Charles Atlas, the trainer from Staten Island came up weak in this on camera assertion made to colleague Brian Kenny. I can understand keeping the source (Atlas said “sources” plural and then hedged it) confidential. I did not call my site Boxingconfidential.com for nothing, you know. But neither Atlas nor columnist Smith have seen the purported “what if Manny comes up dirty, what then?” email(s) supposedly sent by someone in the Pacman’s inner circle. Bob Arum and stepson Todd duBoef are much too bright to put anything like that down written and duly recorded form. Ditto for agent Michael Koncz and Coach Freddie Roach. Conditioner Alex Ariza would not be corresponding with anyone in Mayweatherville, either. So where’s the proof, where’s the actual evidence. Enough with the shielded sources and enough no names attached. The only smoking guns here are, one, to name the sources which isn’t going to happen or, two, and better yet, is to reprint the contents of the email(s). Until then, Atlas is just whistling Dixie and so is Smitty. Final question, if someone saw or had these explosive, damning email(s) why would they want to leak to the media and potentially turn the Mayweather-Pacquaio $200 million grossing jackpot into the train wreck it has become? What advantage would or did anyone connected to Mayweather get from this? That answer is none. When it comes to investigatory journalism, no one is covered in Woodward & Bernstein glory here, folks. This may have come from Deep Trout and not Deep Throat. Speaking of throats, I recommend the gag reflex when it comes to assessing the credibility of this story. In a related and unrelated angle, it’s fun to note that Atlas used to train purported steroid user Michael Moorer who briefly was around Pacman as a Roach assistant. Could Moorer be Atlas’ source or one of them? Strongman Teddy will never tell. I’m putting this case into File 13 and so should you regardless of whether you support Floyd or Manny.
