So far both sides have dug their heels into the sand and neither are moving. My sources are telling me that although the scheduled fight for March 13th is certainly off, the fight in general may very well still happen. As of right now, both sides refuse to budge, but 30 million dollars dangling over their heads will more than likely create some movement sooner or later.
The slander lawsuit is another issue. One would think that before any real negotiations can resume, the two sides would have to come to a settlement of sorts to squash the lawsuit. I doubt that the two sides can negotiate a boxing match when one side wants to sew the other for slander. At the end of the day, it appears as if Mayweather is going to have to make the biggest decision. Pacquiao has agreed to everything except blood testing the day before the fight.
Mayweather is going to have to figure out this lawsuit issue, and he is going to have to move some on his demands with blood testing. Mayweather needs this fight more than Manny Pacquiao needs it. Of course Manny would love to add 30 million dollars to an already stacked back account, but Mayweather despite what most think, needs the money more.
The fans lose out too. Most of the boxing fans wanted to see this fight. Even casual fans, those who do not tune into boxing all that much were excited about this fight. This was going to be the fight to jump start the sport, and to provide us with a matchup that we have not seen in 30 years.
If Maweather’s detractors are indeed correct, and Floyd is scared to fight Manny he is going to have to decide on something. He needs to ask himself if the risk of losing his first fight, and swallowing some pride is worth 30 million dollars. Personally, I would inject myself in my eye with a steroid testing needle for 30 million dollars. Well not really, but you get my point.
