Yesterday was a day that was full off unmentionable reactions when it came to the fact that Pacquiao-Mayweather would not happen this March due to a couple pricks… of blood.
Boxing fans far and wide would comment on the fact that the sport was once again denying them of a true super-fight that they were ready and more than willing to shell out their hard cash money for. It was a fight that could and should have surpassed the 2.44 million buy rate that had been established by Oscar De la Hoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr. in May of 2007.
There was no “manufacture” in this super-fight as both men had worked their way up into the boxing spotlight solidifying themselves as the 1A and 1B of the pound-for-pound best fighter list.
The backlash of this fight not being finalized has manifested itself into one particular Facebook fan page that caught my eye and I decided to interview the creator of this page. With an agreement that the founder would remain anyonymous due to his relationships within the boxing circles, we shall retain the name “Mac Latin” for this creator.
Boxingbookie: So my fellow boxing fan, it appears as though you have created quite a stir with your creation of the newly founded “Boycott Floyd Mayweather Jr. until he fights Manny Pacquiao!” Facebook fan page…
ML: Actually, I started this page back in November following Manny Pacquiao’s win over Miguel Cotto.
Boxingbookie: Really now? So you felt it back in November that Floyd would find some sort of manner in which to weasel himself out of a fight with Manny?
ML: Oh… most definitely! Mayweather twitches like a rabbit and is nothing more than a scared bunny. You could just sense how nervous the “Pacman” made him after that hellacious beatdown he put on poor Cotto. By the way, I’d like to send my deepest condolences to Miguel for the loss of his father.
Boxingbookie: That’s very gracious of you Mac Latin. However, back to the piss and vinegar of this fan page… so why even spend time starting this page?
ML: It’s a statement. In this day and age you don’t need to stand in front of a court room with a picket sign chanting your agenda. All one must do is start a Facebook fan page or a website and the powers that be can easily view the sentiments of the public. The “Boycott Floyd Mayweather Jr. until he fights Manny Pacquiao!” fan page was created for fans who are fed up with the way boxing has been run over the past decade or so giving the fans exactly what they don’t want. Manny Pacquiao has won me over and made me a believer in the power of always putting together exciting performances regardless of who you are or where you’re from. The “Pacman” has become famous the right way and that’s by letting his fists do the talking and leaving a bunch of my fellow hispanics in a bloody heap.
Boxingbookie: So it doesn’t bother you that Manny has used the blood of numerous Hispanic fighters as a catapult to stardom?
ML: Not whatsoever. He’s always been a gracious winner and has always given me my money’s worth when attending a fight live or purchasing it on Pay-Per-View. Mayweather on the other hand… I recommend him for those with chronic insomnia.
Boxingbookie: Haha. That’s funny. Floyd can be entertaining at times when matched correctly. At the lighter weight classes, the “Pretty Boy” was a phenomenal entertainer in my eyes…
ML: (Cutting in) Oh… don’t get me wrong. Floyd is a great, great boxer. I just think that recently he fights more to not lose than to win in style if you know what I mean. He’s like what used to be an aggressive fund manager that instead of taking risks and striving for greatness is now merely concerned with capital preservation. Performance usually falls when strategies are changed and that is exactly what’s happened with Floyd Mayweather Jr. over the past several years.
Boxingbookie: I see. So what are your ultimate goals for starting this fan page? Do you see it as a way to encourage the powers that be to look at the response of the fight fan and perhaps force their hand when dealing with Floyd?
ML: I want each and every fan who joins the page to represent a Pay-Per-View sale that Floyd will no longer see as he continues to duck Manny Pacquiao. He is undeserving of any money from the fans for doing so and someday perhaps the page can grow to an extent that signifies a large potential revenue stream that has been lost due to his course of action and decisions. Under the Facbeook fan page picture (designed by Pacland) is an option to “Suggest to Friends”. I just want to encourage boxing fans across the globe to use this option in order to help make a forceful statement quickly that we will not be buying Mayweather-Malignaggi any day of the week. Unless Floyd fights Manny, he gets no dollars from me or anyone that’s a fan of boxing.
Boxingbookie: Well Mac Latin. It was great being able to interview you. You seem like a knowledgeable boxing fan and have a passion to keep the sport running properly regardless of how many blunders the insiders make.
ML: Thanks and I hope you join the page too my friend! I think Manny is bigger than the just one country now… he represents the people. He’s the true “People’s Champ” and we’ll back him up until he decides to retire.
