LOS ANGELES — Bobby Pacquiao, the younger brother of boxing star Manny Pacquiao, will be arriving here sometime late this week in preparation for his tough outing against Carlos “Famoso” Hernandez of El Salvador on Oct. 8 at the Thomas and Mack Arena in Las Vegas.
Boxing agent Mike Koncz told the Manila Bulletin on Saturday that Bobby “should be here towards the end of this coming week.”
Bobby thus joins two other Filipino boxers – bantamweight Rey Bautista and fly Diosdado Gabi – and trainer Edito “Ala” Villamor living in Koncz’s house in scenic Orange County, just a 40-minute drive from here.
“They (Bautista, Gabi and Villamor) are all doing well,” said Koncz during a break in training at the Wild Card.
Bautista will see action in the undercard of Manny Pacquiao’s fight on Sept. 10 at Staples Center, while Gabi is being eyed to fight on Sept. 23 in Sacramento.
Bobby is fresh from a scintillating knockout victory over the heavily favored Jose Navarro of the US and that win catapulted him to bigger things.
In fact, Bobby has been assured of a paycheck of $90,000 in his meeting with the rugged, iron-chinned Hernandez underneath the highly awaited world lightweight rematch between Diego Corrales and Jose Luis Castillo.
“If Bobby wins this, he could be fighting again in December,” added Koncz.
