The Pacquiao-Mayweather mediation talks hosted by retired federal judge Daniel Weinstein ended its first day of talks in Santa Monica, California without any positive news due to a gag order issued by the retired judge. Representatives of undefeated American boxer Floyd Mayweather and Filipino boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao ended the day Tuesday without any positive news on outcome of the proposed Pacquiao-Mayweather match penciled for March 13, after nine hours of marathon meetings at the office of retired Judge Daniel Weinstein in Santa Monica, California. “At least what we heard was not an announcement saying the fight is off,” said Pacquiao lawyer Franklin Gacal. “Perhaps, they’re still trying to tie up some loose ends.” Thousands of boxing fans around the world await the announcement of the outcome of the mediation talks Tuesday after Bob Arum, Pacquiao’s promoter, called off the fight last week on doping charges by the Mayweather camp. Instead, Pacquiao’s lawyers filed a defamation lawsuit against the Mayweather camp while Arum started talks with Yuri Foreman as Pacquiao’s next opponent. In an effort to find a workable solution to the feud involving the doping charges by the Mayweather camp, the parties agreed to submit the stalled negotiation to mediation and to avail the services of retired federal judge Daniel Weinstein to preside over the mediation proceedings in Sta. Monica, California. Both Pacquiao and the Mayweather camps emerged from the mediation talks with little news about the outcome of the meeting saying that there was a gag order coming from Weinstein not to talk about the case until the issue is resolved. Noted publicist Fred Sternburg said the fact that there’s a gag order could be a good sign. “The longer it is, the better it is. (That) means they’re still working at it,” said Sternburg. There are reports saying that talks will resume on Wednesday.
