Nobody except Floyd Mayweather, Jr. adviser Al Haymon is talking anymore it seems on his behalf. Considering what I have been hearing that’s a good idea.
Just in the past couple of hours today (Tuesday) I have been getting a feeling this fight isn’t going to happen. I don’t have faith in the mediation when one side (Golden Boy) is so conflicting in its message and messengers.
They may be in the midst of having just blown the highest grossing fight in history. Certainly one of them anyway. How would that make you feel? Talk about a PR problem!
If “The Fight” is off, (and I’m not saying it is), does Mayweather, Jr. get the March 13 date at the MGM Grand and find another opponent? Does Pacquiao get March 20 at the UNLV Thomas & Mack Center with a new dance partner?
I bet one of those two will be a big loser financially. But the egos being what they are they wouldn’t admit to losing a penny.
Would either promoter (Top Rank) for Pacquiao or (Golden Boy) for Mayweather, Jr. change their date, change venue? or even city? to avoid a collision? Certainly they would be stepping on some well-heeled toes if this drags out very long.
Keep in mind that this particular type of mediation isn’t binding, says Bob Arum. Either side can take their toys and go home at any time.
Hopefully both sides will see the futility of the past two weeks, swallow their respective pride and agree to a deal by the end of the week.
So this mediation isn’t the last hope, but the end is certainly near. I mean, what else are we waiting for to happen?
