Even though I’m four days deep into my final New Year’s resolution, over all I’m already disillusioned about “The Fight” happening on March 13, 2010. I know I’m one who says it will happen, but why the tease they are putting us through now?
My heart is in Santa Monica, CA for “The Fight” mediation Tuesday, but it’s in Arizona with my TCU Horned Frogs tonight against Boise State. So I do have a life.
Remember when Sugar Ray Leonard assembled the media in tuxedos for a major announcement around 28 years ago? Even Marvelous Marvin Hagler showed up with an extra deposit slip in his wallet expecting Sugar Ray to announce their long awaited payday.
But Leonard took the microphone and said it would never happen. I, like a few Examiner.com boxing writers look and feel like Marvin Hagler at that marvelous moment. We’re saying, “Why did he invite me to this? Why humiliate me publicly?”
So I’m asking Bob Arum, Al Haymon, and Richard Schaefer, “Why invite me to this?”
San Francisco Boxing Examiner Colin Seymour says tonight that a major conciliatory gesture by Floyd Mayweather, Jr. would be needed to bring Pacquiao back into the fold and bring an agreement to save this show.

When I think of Floyd Jr. and gestures, I think of receiving one of the All American middle – finger variety.
Hagler vs. Leonard happened five years later. Let’s hope Mayweather, Jr. vs. Pacquiao doesn’t take quite as long.
