Pacquiao exorcises ‘bad spirits’

MANNY PACQUIAO visited his old haunt yesterday in an effort to tame the spirits of the L&M Gym which he blamed as the reason for having failed to win his last two bouts.

Pacquiao said luck was not on his side when he fought Juan Manuel Marquez and Erik Morales and he theorized that his inability to spend one training day at the L&M on Paquita Street in Sampaloc may have something to do with the results of his bouts with the two Mexicans.

“Hindi kasi ako nakapag-ensayo sa L&M kaya’t tabla ako kay Marquez at talo naman kay Morales,” said Pacquiao, whose training was watched over by Buboy Fernandez and Nonoy Neri.

Also in attendance during the one-and-a-half hour workout were American lawyer Keith Davidson and Los Angeles-based Joe Ramos. They all fly to Los Angeles tomorrow night on board Philippine Airlines.

A press conference has been penciled for Aug. 11 at Max’s Restaurant in Glendale.

Hector Velazquez, whom Pacquiao will face on Sept. 10 at the Staples Center, will also appear to promote his much-awaited scheduled 12-rounder with the Filipino southpaw.

Pacquiao, 26, had also worked out a sweat at Wakee Salud in Cebu on Thursday where he was mobbed by his fans.

Pacquiao even had a chance encounter with fellow Mindanao native William “Butch” Ramirez, chairman of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), who was in the Queen City to join Malaysian and Singaporean Southeast Asian Games inspection teams.

Ramirez, from Davao, where the famed fighter also lives, wished Pacquiao the best of luck.

“Manny is our hero and we should all support him. I wish him all the luck in the world when he faces that tough Mexican fighter,” said Ramirez.
