Golden Boy Promotions, Inc. wanted “The Fight” in Las Vegas, Nevada so much, and now it wants the state to change its rules for its fighter, Floyd Mayweather, Jr., for just this one fight? When will this end? I’m personally tired of this act.
I don’t think anyone will get the attention of Golden Boy until we start dangling their ticket allotment in front of their faces. Then we’ll see them sweat. Maybe even donate its fee from Mayweather Promotions to a charity. I know a non-profit group in need of funds!
It’s the US Anti-Doping Agency! Have you seen the American Olympic boxing talent they have been cranking out over the past few Olympiads? This isn’t 1976 Montreal my friends.
I trust the Nevada State Athletic Commission can take care of its business, as it has all these many years and it doesn’t need help from Golden Boy Promotions or anyone else.
In typical Bob Arum fashion he has said “The Fight” is off. What a drama queen! I think he’s negotiable.

Golden Boy and Richard Schaefer continue to embarrass boxing.
First they refused to fully hear out the bid of Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and virtually blew any chance of having Mayweather, Jr. vs. Pacquiao on the world’s biggest stage (100,000 capacity) that has already won bids for a Super Bowl, NBA All Star Game and NCAA Final Four for a 16,200 seat arena. The sports world officials are laughing.
Second, he has now brought drug issues to the table before boxing’s biggest event.
Mayweather, Jr.’s last fight is still steeped in controversy because of Golden Boy playing fast and loose with the rules regarding their fighter, Mayweather, Jr., coming in two pounds overweight and making a mockery of the system because they wouldn’t announce the maximum weights allowed through the promotion and not until the weigh in. That was preposterous.
Manny Pacquiao is complying with the rules that are on the books. They were the same as his past 10 fights in Nevada. That’s good enough for me.
Maybe the United States Anti- Doping Agency is looking for gratuitous publicity and didn’t realize where Golden Boy was taking them.
In other news, Golden Boy legally petitioned the Nevada State Athletic Commission for the right to promote the fight in the state on either March 13, 2010 or May 1, 2010.
There were plenty of big fights in Nevada before Golden Boy came on the scene and there will be plenty afterwards.
I would hate to lose this one. I don’t think we are at that point yet but the date is getting ominous.
