EDDIE MUSTAFA MUHAMMAD: “PACQUIAO GOT THE PRIDE OF HIS COUNTRY RIDING BEHIND HIM”

“I think it’s going to be a great fight and it will not be a cake walk because Pacquiao got the pride of his country riding behind him,” stated world-class trainer Eddie Mustafa Muhammad as he shared his thoughts on the highly-anticipated clash between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao. No stranger to slick boxers, Muhammad currently trains light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson and, in the past, also worked with the elusive James “Lights Out” Toney.

Although Muhammad thinks the fight will be close, ultimately, he believes Mayweather’s defense will be too good for the Filipino icon to penetrate. “Mayweather and Cotto are 2 different fighters; Floyd ain’t going to stand there and take no shots like that. Floyd is going to move that head, slip and slide, make him miss and make him pay,” he continued. “Floyd Mayweather took time off to get his program together and when he left, he was the pound-for-pound best fighter and upon his return, he is still the pound-for-pound best fighter out there.”

Despite the outcome, however, he does commend both fighters for being willing to do what’s best for the sport. “You know what the good thing about that fight is? It’s good for boxing,” he added. “I commend those guys for stepping to the plate and delivering on the fight that everybody wants to see and we will see what they bring to the table.”
