UNBEATEN Cebuano Eriberto Gejon challenges World Boxing Association minimumweight champion Yutaka Niida on Sept. 25 at The Arena in Yokohama, Japan.
A Wakee Salud prot?g?, Gejon, considered tall at 5-foot-6 for a fighter who weighs only 105 lb, is ranked No. 2 by the Venezuela-based WBA, and boasts an unblemished record of 21 wins (13 KOs) and a draw.
“I am ready to give Niida a good fight,” the 27-year-old Gejon said in an interview.
It will be a tough battle, though, for the Mandaue City-based fighter.
The 26-year-old Yokohama-based reigning champ Niida (18-1-3, 8 KOs) will be making the third defense of the title he regained following a self-imposed retirement in 2001.
Considered one of Japan’s best fighters, Niida last saw action on April 16 when he decisioned Korean Kim Jae-won to retain his title.
