It’s mind boggling to understand Cesar Chavez, Jr’s rationale about the incident that resulted in his positive urine test after his fight with Troy Rowland on the Pacquiao-Cotto undercard last month.
According to published reports, Junior readily admitted that he took Furosemide to allow him to urinate more and make weight. “I only took it to make weight,” he stated.
Hey Junior, that is using drugs to have an unfair advantage, No more and no less!
There is no way you and your Team can convince the world, let alone the Nevada State Athletic Commission that you did not know that taking drugs to lose weigh is illegal.
Ignorance of the law, in this case the regulations of the NSAC, is not an excuse. That is true in this country and I am sure it could be true as well in Mexico.
Your Team has been on the boxing business for years and they should know the rules!
If they were aware of the regulations and did not tell you about it, I suggest you fire them all. Cheaters do not have a place on a decent team, particularly one with a revered name like Chavez.
If they did not, you fire them too for their ignorance have caused you problems and will continue to do so in the future.
Their job is to look after you. And, if looking after you include making you use drugs to lose weight, I must tell you, they failed miserably.
Now that you have admitted it, perhaps it will do you well to swallow your “error of judgment.”
Admit that you used it and simply apologize and take the consequences. And, be humble as you ask for leniency.
Perhaps that may gain you a little sympathy and understanding from the Commissioners and your penalties will be lesser.
Fighting the lab results to the hilt will only make you really look bad because everyone in the sweet science particularly those in the Commission know that taking drugs to create an unfair advantage is illegal.
Not allowed, comprende?
Not being totally truthful will only harden the resolve of the Commissioners and may cost you more on the long run.
You are a growing boy. Take your gaffe, endure the consequences, and move on. But it will do you good to harden your resolve to do better next time.
Perhaps in the future it will help if you stay on the traditional ways of keeping weight:- right nutrition (in and out of training camp) and proper training. In short, discipline!
And, do not forget, just say no to drugs, furosemide included.
