Judging by all things I’ve heard from the media recently it’s becoming clear that the Mayweather/Paquiao bout will happen in March 2010.
I have to admit, I’m very surprised that the biggest bout that can possibly be made in boxing looks to have come to fruition so easily and so quickly. I, like everyone else, was expecting a circus when it came time for negotiations; after all both of these great fighters are known for being difficult to negotiate with. However, as of right now it looks like everything is coming along smoothly and incredibly quickly.

he was tired of Floyd’s trash talking and he didn’t want kids who are watching to emulate Floyd. That all sounds great, out of a fairy tale almost, the knight in shinning armor going out to defeat the villain.
Everyone loves a happy ending and you can just tell the world is ready for Manny, the humble church attending Christian, to defeat the arrogant, loud mouth, Floyd Mayweather.
Unfortunately this is no fairy tale, this is the real world, and inside the square circle it’s even more real, and the good guy doesn’t always win; as a matter of fact sometimes the good guy gets beaten to a pulp.
I don’t expect Manny to take that type of beating, not only because Manny is a great fighter, but mainly because Floyd is such a cautious fighter; but I do expect an unhappy ending to this fairy tale.
Now I know Manny has made me look like a fool in the past with my picks, and I love the guy as much as the next guy; but I just don’t see anyway he can defeat Floyd.
Floyd is light-years (yes I do know they measure distance) a better boxer than Erik Morales, Juan Manuel Marquez and that version of Miguel Cotto that we saw in the first round against Manny.
Floyd is the real deal, the truth, the one, whatever you want to call him; he’s the guy that goes 12 rounds without getting touched.
I’m a big fan of Manny, I really am, but Floyd Mayweather simply has the style to beat him and in boxing styles make fights.
Maravilla and the Punisher!
It was a hell of a scrap this past Saturday between Paul Williams and Sergio Martinez. At the end of the fight, as it was expected, there were people saying Williams won and others saying Martinez won; but how about that card by Pierre Benoist. Whenever I see incidents like this happen it makes me wonder why they’re not stricter penalties for judges or referees. Benoist card was horrible, but I was also amazed to see that both of the other two judges gave the first round to Williams. Regardless of that, it was a great fight and with either guy being so avoided they should have a rematch, I’m sure HBO would buy it. I know Paul Williams, who is a lanky, high volume puncher, had looked like a hard puzzle to figure out before this past Saturday, but after watching the fight it became clear to me that the way to beat Williams is the same way to beat any aggressive fighter, with a good counter puncher. For the record I had the fight a draw.
Jones and Hopkins!
I said in my last blog that the best fighter I have ever seen is a prime Roy Jones. If you find that hard to believe I don’t blame you, with every passing day it becomes easier and easier to remember him more for his KO losses than for his great show of talent against guys like James Toney. I was not surprised to hear that he got Koed, after all it’s happened before, but I was surprised at the way he got stopped. No it was not an early stoppage, regardless of what Bhop says, but the punch that hurt him seemed to be merely a glancing blow, yet another reason why Jones needs to just call it a career. As for Hopkins, I did not get to see his fight, but after reading the comment “it was another typical Hopkins performance” in several boxing sites I can safely assume it was a boring fight. I respect Bhop as a fighter, what the man has been able to do and can do at his age is nothing short of amazing; but seriously his fights are fights that I can barely stay awake for and would never pay to see. Now that Jones has gotten stopped if Hopkins wants to keep fighting he should fight one of the following three guys, Chad Dawson, Thomas Adamek or Lucian Bute.
Random Thoughts:
So the Hornets fire Byron Scott, but they hire Tim Floyd? Even if it’s just for an assistant position if you’re an NBA team you don’t want Tim Floyd on your bench!

Ok so Floyd doesn’t understand why he’s not loved more in America like he is in England and Amir Khan doesn’t understand why he’s not loved in England like he’s in America. I’m not sure if Floyd is loved that much in England but I will say to Amir, buddy just stay in England, we’re a little tougher on our athletes here.

Seriously should anyone be surprised that Tiger Woods cheated on his wife? I’m sure the man has a ton of women throwing themselves at him; men were not designed to handle that.
Remember last time when I didn’t want to brag about how well my picks had been after the Taylor/Abraham fight? Well I should have just kept my mouth shut in the fights after I’ve done as bad as anyone.
How bad are my Chicago Bulls? Apparently bad enough that you can tie your shoe laces in the middle of a live play without being disturbed.
I haven’t see New Moon yet, but judging by the previews Werewolves do not own shirts.
