8CountNews sat down with current IBA Super Bantamweight world champion Ana Julaton and got her thoughts on her upcoming WBO Super Bantamweight title fight against Donna Biggers. Julaton recently grabbed her first world title back in September by defeating Kelsey Jeffries via majority decision. Ana shows what she is made of by announcing that some of the proceeds made in her fight will go toward the victims suffering due to the typhoon that hit the Philippines. A true class act, Julaton is giving back. This big title fight will take place on December 4th, at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. 8CN – Ana thanks for joining 8CN.
AJ – Thanks for having me.
8CN – Talk about this big WBO title fight you have coming up.
AJ – It’s happening next Friday at the HP Pavilion in San Jose. Were looking for a big crowd and a lot of excitement. We will be working on unifying two titles.
8CN – What do you know about your opponent Donna Biggers?
AJ – I know she tough and she’s been in the business for awhile. She has fought top opposition, and she’s experienced. I expect a fight this Friday, and I expect to show some fireworks for the fans. I want to showcase how great female boxing is in this fight.
8CN – San Jose has become a hot spot for you. Are you excited about fighting in front of the San Jose fans again?
AJ – Absolutely! The HP Pavilion has been great, they have really shown support for women’s boxing. They help bring a lot more attention to women’s boxing, and hopefully we can do a lot more things like this in the future.
8CN – How has training camp gone for this fight? You have been really busy, you just grabbed your first title in September.
AJ – Training camp has gone great. We made a few adjustments and brought a few more people into the camp. I had the opportunity to train with Rick Noble, who’s worked with a lot of champions, and I brought in a new strength and conditioning coach Lauro Doroliat who has helped me with my strength and conditioning. He’s made me a lot more aware of my body, I feel like I have been able to pick up more speed, and more power. We are ready to go.
8CN – Talk about you confidence level right now. I am guessing that you have a lot more confidence coming off of your title win.
AJ – Boxing is a dangerous sport in general. For me I have learned from my last fight that I had to be 100 percent confident. For this one I have to be 100 percent again, it’s another risk so I am all up for it. Boxing is explosive, anything can happen. I have to be confident, and I am so thankful that I have such a supportive group. I don’t forget the lessons that I learned coming up to this fight.
8CN – You have one world title and are shooting for your second one. How long do you want to fight? Is boxing something that you want to do long term?
AJ – It’s a tough sport and it is very demanding. It’s funny, when I did my first amateur fights I just wanted to do it while I was young. I don’t plan on staying in it that long. I want to promote female boxing in America, and promote it the best that I can. After all of this, I would like to continue on in supporting all of the female athletes. I see me at most going two more years. I want to test this body out before my youth fades.
8CN – Last time we spoke you mentioned to me that you were involved with the typhoon relief efforts in the Philippines. How’s that going for you so far?
AJ – It’s been going great, but there has been so much going on around the world. It’s very easy to get caught up in all of these things so in order to help them out it’s going to take more than an over-night effort. For my next fight people people can go to www.teamjulaton.com and purchase tickets, and some of the proceeds will go toward the relief effort over in the Philippines.
8CN – Off of your career for a second, I wanted to get your thoughts on the Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather fight.
AJ – It’s what the sport needs. I am routing for Manny all the way. There are so many people talking about Manny and the distractions, but the thing is, Manny is so talented he’s able to do more than just one thing at once. Floyd is a great fighter, but Manny is a phenomenal fighter.
8CN – Well the distractions haven’t hurt Manny yet (laughing)
AJ – (laughing)
8CN – So I’m going to put you on the spot. Who do you think is going to win, Manny or Floyd?
AJ – I am going with Manny Pacquiao all the way!
8CN – Back to your career. Things have changed for you since winning your first world title. Are you focused for this upcoming fight?
AJ – Yea, it’s been an amazing position to be in. It’s come to a point where I have to carefully position my training sessions. I am just thankful to have this position, it’s something that I have not experienced before. I am ready to go.
8CN – What’s been the biggest challenge and or adjustment you have had to make since becoming a world champion?
AJ – With success comes a huge responsibility. I think it’s all about having a positive attitude about things. I feel healthy, energetic, excited, and this is the best place for me to be at this point. All of this will come to an end one day, so I am just enjoying this while it lasts.
8CN – Good luck Ana, thanks for joining us.
AJ – Thank you so much Brad, I really appreciate your time.
