I have written a few press releases in my day that have stretched any semblance of truth to the maximum limits. I once wrote that Lennox Lewis – Mike Tyson was headed to a 70,000 seat state – of -the – art stadium in Nigeria. I assure you no stadium meeting this description exists.
I have learned the purpose of wild claims in press releases is usually to sucker someone with money in and then see what happens. And it happens more than you think. The victims are too embarrassed to press charges or go public in any way. It’s a time – honored scam.
The news that Evander Holyfield and Francois Botha are planning to fight in January is fine. Sad, but fine.
But these promoters out did themselves by trying to out do each other with sensational claims as to the legitimacy of the proposed event which is probably no more than only on a yellow pad on someone’s kitchen table.
What we have here is a boxing press release worthy of Hall of Fame merit in my opinion, but certainly a few chuckles now during the Thanksgiving Holiday Season.

80,000 spectators? Maybe 80,000 bill collectors could rally around this event.
World-Wide Pay-Per-View distribution! Sounds like a co-promotion of Murad Muhammad and Artie Pelullo!
Maintaining the high standards and dignity of the event is the World Boxing Foundation/Federation. The name is being fought over in court.
I hate to see Holyfield fighting again. However, the safest place he could be and possibly get paid is in a boxing ring opposite Francois “The White Buffalo” Botha.
