I will say this one last and final time, Miguel Cotto is not finished! Cotto may be a lot closer to the end of his run now than he was say a week ago, but by no means do I feel that we should put a fork in him just yet. Cotto has way too much heart for anyone to give up on him, Cotto didn’t give up in the ”fight for his life” against the Pac-Man last Saturday, so why should we give up on Cotto now?
I simply feel that Pacquiao could have beaten any welter weight on that night. Cotto was just out gunned by a typhoon-like person with missiles as hands. A better question to ask is if Cotto is still being haunted by the Margarito Ghost. I believe that he is, the horrific images of Margarito coming at him had to be present mentally as Cotto found himself in retreat of the typhoon with a similar swollen face as before and in the same building.
It’s the same ghost that haunts Jermain Taylor, only Taylor’s ghost goes by the name of ironically Kelly ‘The Ghost” Pavlik. Fernando Vargas had his own ghost named Trinidad. Trinidad had his own ghost named Hopkins, Trinidad was never the same beast he was after Hopkins was done with him. Some may say that now Pavlik is being haunted by the same Hopkins ghost that haunted Trinidad. To a certain degree, I agree.
Why else would Pavlik pull out of a clash against the Punisher Williams only to reschedule against a soft opponent like Miguel Espino just 2 weeks after his date with the Punisher was set to take place. What magical cure did they use to cure this so called infection? I believe that Pavlik the Ghost just is not ready to face those demons just yet.
So where does Cotto go from here? I feel that Cotto needs fights that he can get up for to help him get his mojo back but obviously not against killers like Punisher or Pac-Man. At the same time you don’t want to pin him against softies to build an illusion. Here are my top 5 opponents for the Boriqua Bomber.
5 Future Opponents for Cotto
1. Luis Collazo- A clash against Collazo in Puerto Rico or even Madison Square Garden would be real big. Question is, will Cotto’s people see too much risk pinning him in against another southpaw?
2. Isaac Hlatshwayo- Isaac is no scrub, Isaac has the toughness to test Cotto so this would be a great pick for Cotto to make his return against.
3. Selcuk Aydin- This Aydin kid can really crack, so why pin Cotto against him? Simply because Aydin is not a rapid moving object like Pac-Man. In other words, Aydin will not be hard to find.
4. Ricky Hatton- I too am surprised to see this name on the list, but you have to admit that this fight can and will be exciting for the simple fact that each man will be out to prove that they are not finished yet. A battle between the last 2 men conquered by Pacquiao.
5. Jesus Soto – Karass is a tough brawler that comes to brawl. Cotto also likes to brawl and bang away. This would be an exciting fight from start to finish.
