It was very sad to hear Julian Letterlough was killed. Who do you compare him to from the 70’s?

Pretty much decent looking if he’d fought back then in measuring up along with Jimmy Ellis, Ron Lyle, or George Chuvalo. We’re talking about matchmaking wise.
And I happen to think he would’ve had many successes in parity against Lyle, though I wouldn’t compare the late Julian Letterlough to any fighter; particularly now that we’re all in mourning of him Joey.

What do you hear about Hopkins’ training camp?

I heard he’s doing great. No complaints. Bernard is a real throwback fighter of old.
If anyone is looking for him to turn tarnished or get slow in there, they may be surprised at how optimal and great a condition he’s really in.
He never has an ounce of fat on him. He’s trained for all styles of fighting from an assortment of sparring mates, and his weight always on key. This fight with Taylor is going to boil down to more of the conditioning then most people care to think of, so it is a very viable question you just posed here. Thanks for it.

I just read your tribute to Rocky Marciano who is my favorite fighter. Why do you think he retired so early and do you think he could beat all the heavyweights out there today?

I did that piece to commend an athlete of his stature for all generations. Thanks for your compliment I really appreciate. I cannot come up with really his reasons for retiring going out ahead of his game, but I respect it to this very day.
In my estimation about how he’d fair in an unsteady weight division as it is right now, would be like having a revival about it.
Rocky not only would had been champion, but Undisputed Heavyweight Champion of the World.
These bigger guys now would be facing a greater fighting machine that did it all, and knocking them out would’ve been his stamp of approval for The Rock breaking their sheer will to succeed. Most of his opponents were actually glad to get kayoed not to endure prolonged agonies of punishment.
He would’ve broken bones, rib cages, and noses simultaneously inside of that heavyweight ring today.

I see you really are high on Saoul Mamby. Do you see him beating Floyd Mayweather Jr by a decision?

Peter I am high on any fighter who challenges himself to beat the odds, with Mamby being no exception to that rule along with all the rest.
Maybe by the year 2010 it would be a shame if Sweet Saoul significantly extended PBF to eight rounds, I don’t know.
Even sadder still is for him to be beaten by a sixty-two year old, him being just thirty-four. Right?

You interviewed Tony Tubbs back in January and I have not seen anything on him fighting lately. Do you know when he fights again?

He’s fighting for fighters everywhere these days in a helpful way. I am not sure when he is fighting next.
