Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto was huge.
It’s obvious that Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather will be bigger.
HBO Sports reported Friday that 1.25 million pay-per-view buys were generated from last Saturday’s welterweight title fight between Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto at the sold-out MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
That makes it the top-rated boxing pay-per-view event in 2009, generating $70 million in pay-per-view revenue. There was much love for Cotto in Puerto Rico, which contributed a record 110,000 buys.
Did you miss out?
The fight will be replayed Saturday, Nov. 21 at 10 p.m. ET.
Pacquiao’s 12-round TKO marked his seventh world title in seven weight classes, a record in the sport.
Bu the really big fight remains. I am sure that Mayweather and Pacquiao will do business next year.
They have to.
They would be stupid to each turn away a boatload of cash, at least $15 million per fighter.
So let’s talk turkey:
Who wins?
It is a classic matchup. Both fighters are sharp, quick and can bring the pain.
I am sure the People’ Choice will be Pacquiao. Money Mayweather is the equivalent of a heel in pro wrestling. He loves to be the bad guy.
My money is on Pacquiao.
But I wouldn’t count Mayweather out.
Who do you like?
