DAVAO CITY — Negotiations are now underway for newly-crowned World Boxing Council Continental America super featherweight champion Bobby Pacquiao to to fight with an still undetermined foe on the under card of the Vitali Klitschko title fight on September 24 at the Madison Square Garden in New York City.
American Michael Koncz, co-manager of the younger brother of People’s featherweight champion Manny Pacquiao, revealed this.
Bobby Pacquiao recently knocked out Mexican Carlos Navarro to annex the WBC Continental American title. His brother Manny co-manages him with Koncz.
Koncz in an email said, they are negotiating with K2 Promotions and managing director Mr. Tom Loeffler for Bobby to fight on September 24, 2005, on the under card of Heavyweight Champion, Vitali Klitschko.
The Klitschko fight on September 24 against winner of Hasim Rahman (40-5-1, 33 KOs) vs. Monte Barrett (31-3, 17 KOs) will solidify the WBC title picture, Heavy weight reports said.
“In the event we are not able to reach an agreement with Tom for the 24th bout it is anticipated that Bobby will fight on the under card when Manny fights an undetermined opponent possibly on September 10, 2005 in Los Angeles, California” Koncz said.
The American said he and Manny have concluded that under the present circumstances and in light of a mandatory title defense due by the end of July, Bobby will more likely than not relinquish his Philippine Super Featherweight Championship Title in order to concentrate and aggressively purse opportunities in America.
“Nevertheless, a formal announcement will be made in this regard in the next few days after we have the opportunity to speak with the Games and Amusement Board ” he added.
Meanwhile, Koncz denied reports that are set to see action against little-known 19-year old Billy Dib in Sydney, Australia on July 27.
“Manny and I have no knowledge pertaining to this alleged bout as we have had no discussions with nor, have we been contacted by any member of Mr. Dib’s camp” said Knocz, who added “that this alleged match up does not benefit the advancement of Bobby’s career at this point in time therefore; we will not pursue this issue”.
