
The Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Scarborough central MPP Brad Duguid along with the president of Orion Sports Management Allan Tremblay presented the WBO World Championship Super Flyweight belt to Marvelous Marvin Sonsona on Sunday, November 15.
The reception at the Armenian Community Center was in tribute and appreciation to one of the youngest boxing champions and was attended by Marvin’s growing fans base. The function was also attended by other members of government, the Philippine Consul General Alejandro B. Mosquera and various members of the media including TSN and the Toronto Star.
Many fans had the opportunity to meet and greet Marvin Sonsona in person for autographs and pictures in addition to getting acquainted with the young phenom. Allan Tremblay formally introduced all of the Team Sonsona members, managers Dr. Rajan Yraola, Dr. Khristine Yraola and coach Nonito Donaire Sr. during the reception. Marvin’s long time coach, Jhun Agrabio was not able to make the trip to Canada due to sudden illness. Mr. Tremblay expressed and complemented that Marvin’s coach, Nonito Donaire Sr. is the best Filipino coach in boxing today.
Junior Featherweight Ciso “Kid Terrible” Morales ranked eight in the WBO was formally introduced for the first time to the fans and media during this presentation. Both Marvin and Ciso had the opportunity to showcase both their incredible punching power and speed. Each boxer had a one round practice session and worked the mitts with coach Nonito Sr. and showcased what is in store for their opponents for Rumble at Rama X on Nov. 21.
During the practice, Marvin delivered his punches with more authority since his last performance while Ciso proved that he has the impressive velocity and power from both hands that is guaranteed to deliver excitement for fight night. The crowd was pleased with their skilful performance.
Philippine Consul, Alejandro Mosquera expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Canadian Government who donated $200,000.00 to aid the flood victims in the Philippines in addition to the generosity demonstrated by the Canadian Government in the past.
Overall, the presentation and meet and greet was a success for all that attended. Marvin and Ciso gave their fans their undivided attention and met with all of them. The two boxers also gave out raffled prizes such as autographed posters and tickets to the venue which was a generous offering by Orion Sports Management. Minister Brad Duguid truly showed his sincerity and devotion to the sport of boxing and to his riding in Scarborough Central by facilitating this event which is what the sport needs today. He also acknowledged his support to the many Filipinos in the community in addition to his appreciation for them.
