Beware of those who do not know a left hook from a fish hook so sayeth Michael L. Marley, pugilistic pundit.
Beware of “White Gorilla” Marley so sayeth Pinay soothsayer Madam Auring who knows all, tells nothing and wears skimpy bathing suits on the cover of FHM Magazine’s Filipino edition.
Look, I am excusing 88 year old master trainer Angelo Dundee for getting it all wrong on the Miguel Cotto-Manny Pacquiao fight.
The Great Man was a paid shill for Bob Arum, a time honored boxing tradition and a role which was played in the past by the likes of Joe Louis and Sugar Ray Robinson. Had Pacman been the underdog, Arum would have instructed Crocodile Dundee to publicly tout Manny to win.
I’m hearing that Dundee could’ve picked up an extra $10,000 from Top Rank to come to Vegas and work the media throng at Fight Central but that he decided not to log the air miles.
Dundee is a good man and a great trainer, the spiritual father of Coach Freddie Roach just as much as Freddie’s own tutor, the estimable Eddie Futch was.
But let’s pick on some others who got it all wrong for no reason other than not seeing the forest for the trees.
Prediction Dishionor Roll: (Thanks to Viel Mervic of Pacland for his compilation to which I have added some Megamanny Heretics)
