MANILA, Philippines – President Arroyo will give assistance to Filipino boxer Z Gorres who is currently recovering in a hospital in Las Vegas, Press Secretary Cerge Remonde said yesterday.
Gorres collapsed minutes after defeating Columbian Luis Melendez at the House of Blues in the Mandalay Resort and Casino on Sunday.
He was rushed to the University Medical Center in Las Vegas where he underwent surgery due to a blood clot on the left side of his brain.
He was later pronounced out of danger.
“Definitely we want to take care of him,” Remonde said adding that the boxer gave honor to the country.
He also said that although details of the plan are yet to be finalized, Malaca?ang will definitely give Filipino boxing champion Manny Pacquiao a hero’s welcome.
He noted that all through the years, Mrs. Arroyo and Pacquiao have maintained a close relationship, so much so that whenever the Filipino boxing champion has a boxing match, the administration gives him its all-out moral support.
