Now that Peter destroyed Sykes, do you think he deserves a title shot like his team is calling out for?

Peter did the job, but Sykes was nothing more than a guy who stood in front of him. There is no doubt that Peter has big power, but he gets very sloppy in there and throws wild. Tyson was a much more skilled boxer at the same point Peter is at now, but remember, when Tyson fought a guy that boxed his ears off, (Buster Douglas), look what happened. I am glad to see Peter get media coverage, but I am not sold on him till he fights a legit contender such as a Hasim Rahman, Calvin Brock, or even throw him in there with Nicolay Valouev. Once he beats one of these guys, he is legit and deserves a title shot.

Is it really true that Tommy Hearns is coming back at the age of 46?

Yes, unfortunately it is true. He would have been a first timer next year for the IBHOF since his five years from his last fight was up, but this move now will prolong that. From what I understand, he did really well with his money, but this is more an ego move. Tommy is one of my all-time favorites, but I would much rather see him enjoy his retired life and just promote his son Ronald’s career. Let’s hope he doesn’t get hurt in there, and look for this comeback to not go very far once he faces if he does, a top contender. He is fighting as a cruiserweight now some 43 plus pounds from the days he won the belt from Pipino Cuevas.

I agree with you totally, but I am not a promoter nor get into that side of boxing. His team has to do that and they will. Manny is a warrior and an idol to the PI folks. They want him to fight very soon and he will not disappoint them.

I keep hearing Mike Tyson is now coming back to fight in four rounders. This has to be BS, but if it’s true, do you think it makes him look bad and the sport of boxing?

Saying that it makes someone look bad, should we all think its so bad when an athlete can reel in some serious money in a foreign country where U.S. fans aren’t even participants? Damn right it makes everyone mad! Listen, I’ll tell you something funny cause I’m in a good mood.
When Nathan Edward Ott the catcher in the ’80’s who played for the Pirates body slammed Felix Millian who played second base with the Mets separating his shoulder, he did him a favor. That’s right. Millian went onto Japan signing the biggest contract of his Amazing Met life making Millions! Casey Stingel would’ve been proud of him. I would learn to eat Sushi most properly with bucks like that.
So it’s not only about the athlete on his way out that doesn’t make the world spin on a plate by its own volition anymore, if they’re paying into it, Just Go For It!

I hear it’s none of my business. To be real though, even if I knew, I wouldn’t be circumventing proximities kicking it like that one; being none of anyone else’s business too where private settlements are concerned to start with being just that.

He just fought his strategy in that fight which didn’t work. I’d say he could still hang with the bigger boys since he still has got that punch. He’d need to make a significant statement there like a fight with Vivian Harris to say something to the public. I hope this answers your question James.

I don’t not only know the deal that’s led up to that one, but I seem to know even lesser about how Juan Manuel Marquez gets left out in the dark behind all of this?
Don’t just take my word for it, but sometimes fighters are better off not knowing anything until it is written on the fine print of the stipulated contract before even deciding to play it by ear from my point of view.

If Pretty Boy Floyd isn’t the one to beat in two divisions, I’ll take nothing back in the form of any wooden nickels; however Judah’s got the power to perform modern day miracles.

I heard Gerry Cooney is coming back to fight Mike Tyson over in Japan. Is this true?

It is honestly the first time I have heard of it myself Tommy, but I am not at a lost it if it was to be so. Many fighters in the past have gone from wrestling and tussling bears to fighting four and five tough men in a single night.
Japan I was told by a very trustworthy source pays much money into smaller divisions that we’d totally discard for all of those zeros to allowed be on a check here, so just maybe imagine what real heavyweights would be worth there?

I grew up loving to watch Tyrone Crawley, Robin Blake and Chris Calvin. Do you know where they are today?

I couldn’t find as to the whereabouts about ESPN’s “Fighting Fireman” Chris Calvin these days, however I do have some answers for the other two you asked about.
Crawley, of course is with the Philly Police Department, a terrific fighter I may add, and an inductee to New Jersey’s Hall Of Fame.
Robin Blake, the one time top ranked IBF lightweight contender decided to hang up his gloves for good without much of a hitch to it. Interesting to note in that Tyrone Crawley still holds Blake as being his biggest fight back in October ’83, chiefly responsible for having placed him in boxing contention. Blake also fights crime in Odessa, having joined the OPD.

Does Samuel Peter remind you of George Foreman?

No not at all Tracy. Perhaps George reminds them of that by Peter for his punching prowess, but that’s about where those comparisons end, with each fighting completely differently.
I would give Peter good grades in having some intuitive skills figuring out when he’s got his opponent hurt, but if you’d asked me right now who’d I favor as the hardest puncher between the two; in Foreman’s times, I’d have to say it was the Big Texan George.

I thought it was great! He knows when to go for the knockout and when not to.
Willie, Peter is showing everyone that he is climbing that top-ten variety to be reckoned. What I like most is that he’s only twenty-four in a heavyweight division that is quite frankly older today on an average. And if he becomes a student of hitting the body, I think it’ll pay off even better for the Nigerian. I think Peter is going to be Heavyweight Champion by 2006.
