I never in my wildest dreams would have thought that in a proposed match-up between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. that the oddsmakers would open up the Filipino as any sort of betting favorite of the “Pretty Boy”. It’s a testament to the eye-opening statements made by the “Pacman” within his recent performances and that the betting public has completely fallen in love with the southpaw monster.
Apparently the line-makers opened up Pacquiao as an 8-5 favorite against Mayweather which provoked some Floyd backers to bring in a “couple stacks of high society”, driving the odds down to 7-5 for Manny.
I would venture to say that this fight between the two best pound-for-pound fighters in the world will be the most heavily bet boxing event of this century.
It will surpass Mayweather-De la Hoya and Tyson-Lewis in terms of degenerate hoopla as everyone starts dusting off their old tapes and dvds of both men attempting to decipher who will truly be the ultimate kingpin of the sweet science in 2010.
It will be extremely interesting to see how the betting line ends up in the end as this most recent bout with Pacquiao and Cotto solidified the lingering questions marks in regards to Manny as to A)whether he could withstand a true welterweight punch B)how well his footspeed and handspeed have translated over in the higher 140+ range… and C) whether he still has that deep fighting desire after making millions upon millions of dollars.
Manny has answered all the questions and more leading it to make complete sense as to why the bookie’s have opened him up as the slightest of favorites in regards to a Mayweather bout.
Interesting developments will continue to transpire as it pertains to this fight my friends…
