LAS VEGAS–One week Oscar de la Hoya picks Manny Pacquaio to beat Miguel I’m No Angel Cotto.
The next week, the not shy but now retired former “President of Boxing” (a honorific I constantly bestowed on him) flip flops and says Cotto will defeat the Pinoy Idol.
As far as I’m concerned, Oscar should stick to picking his nose.
Here’s a sample of Ocar’s blog in his house organ, Ring magazine:
“Cotto has a good chin and a big heart. He’s a natural welterweight who hits hard and is also smart and fast. Pacquiao doesn’t hit hard enough to knock anyone out in the welterweight division. I’m basing that on my fight against Pacquiao. I could’ve stood there and put my face in front of him and he couldn’t have hurt me,” he said.
Seriously though, blowhard Bob Arum is 100 percent right in saying that ODLH can pick whoever he wants to win a fight especially one he is not promoting.
But you and I don’t need Blowhard Bob to tell us that Blowhard Oscar is fighting a losing fight against the green eyed monster known as jealousy.
Oscar’s humungous ego is taking a daily battering.
There’s Manny singing and smiling his way into the hearts of Americans on the Jimmy Kimmel show, a complete tour de force of a performance.
There’s Manny’s mug on the cover of the Asian edition of Time magazine.
Next Wednesday, Hizzoner Oscar Goodman, the former Mob defense lawyer, will be presenting the key to Lost Wages, Nevada, to Manny and to the Boricua Banger.
