MANNY Pacquiao knows that the fame and glory he’s enjoying now won’t last forever. He’s giving himself five more years before quitting boxing altogether.
“I’ll stop fighting when I’m 30. I may be earning millions, but boxing is hard. My body needs rest by then,” said Pacquiao during a phone interview Saturday with TV hosts Rosanna Roces and Butch Francisco on the GMA Network showbiz program Startalk.
Paquiao, acknowledged as the people’s featherweight champion of the world after stopping Mexican legend Marco Antonio Barrera in 11 rounds in Texas recently, is turning 25 on Dec. 12.
In the interview, Pacquiao, who arrived to a hero’s welcome Friday night, expressed his gratitude to the Filipino people for supporting him all the way.
