DAVAO CITY — World-rated flyweight Diosdado Gabi will take on Philippine rated Eric Barcelona in a 10-round non-title fight on April 10 at the Almendras gym in this city according to Gabi’s manager Soc Pi?ol.
The fight was originally set for April 9 in Bohol but the proposed organizers begged off due to time constraint prompting North Cotabato Governor Emmanuel Pi?ol to bankroll and transfer the fight instead in this city on April 10 Pinol said.
The fight will serve, as a tune up match for the 25 years old southpaw who is seeking a crack at the world flyweight-boxing crown.
Gabi, carries a ring record of 24 wins, 2 losses, 18 wins by knockout and 2 draws while the Barcelona ring slate include a 27-6-4 (9KO’s) win-loss-draw record.
“He (Gabi) is really in top condition now. We believe that he can beat any flyweight and junior bantamweight world champions. We saw the fights of other flyweight or junior bantamweight contenders and we believe Gabi can beat them ” Soc Pinol said.
If Gabi win’s, according to Soc, he will start his United States campaign at the Wild Card Gym of Freddie Roach, Manny Pacquiao’s chief trainer.
