Tungod, Inabanga, Bohol – The search for another Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao successor continues. In yet another positive development for Philippine boxing, SGG Sports Promotion’s top honcho and widely considered as the “Don King” of Philippine boxing promotional business Samson “Sammy” Gello-ani announced that undefeated and up-and-coming 19-year-old light flyweight prospect Jhonreil “Quadro Alas” Casimero has been booked for an interim world championship stint tentatively scheduled this December. Gello-ani made this breaking announcement in “TKO”, a Saturday boxing talk show program, on Cebu Catholic Television Network (CCTN) local channel 47, which airs in Cebu City and the neighboring provinces, Casimero, an Ormoc City native and now based in Guizo, Mandaue City, Cebu, Philippines, holds an immaculate win-loss-draw card of 13-0-0, spiked by 7 KOs. He currently holds the WBO Asia Pacific light flyweight title and once was Philippine Boxing Federation’s (PBF) flyweight titlist.
It might be recalled that SGG Sports Promotions was also responsible for giving the other 19-year-old and 2nd youngest Filipino to become a world champion “Marvelous” Marvin Sonsona (14-0-0, 12 KOs) a crack at the WBO super flyweight title he eventually won just a few months ago. Sonsona is scheduled to make his first defense of his championship belt against tough 23-year-old Mexican Alejandro “Payasito” Hernandez (22-7-1, 11 KOs) on the 21st of November at the Casino Rama in Ontario, Canada. In the main supporting bout, Cagayan de Oro – based Boholano Ciso “Kid Terrible” Morales (13-0-0, 8 KOs) will also try to make his mark and inch closer to his goal of becoming a world champion, as he tangles with Miguel Angel Gonzales “Ranita” Piedras (10-1-0. 4 KOs) also of Mexico.
Gello-ani also announced that 29-yr-old journeyman Frederico “Magnifico” Catubay (25-15-3, 13 KOs) from Labason, Zamboanga Del Norte has been given another lease of life for his boxing career, as he is scheduled to trade mitts with Juan Alberto “El Topo” Rosas (30-5-0, 25 KOs) of Mexico for the IBF super flyweight title eliminator, where the winner will automatically take the mandatory challenger’s spot for the prestigious world title.
