CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Four Filipino boxers reign as champions while 21 others are listed as challengers in their respective weight divisions in the latest ratings of the Orient Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF).
Rodel Mayol of the Terry Carter Boxing Stable of Cebu City is the Mini Flyweight champion of OPBF. Another Cebuano boxer, Elmer Gejon is listed as the No. 1 contender for Mayol”s title.
Jr. Lightweight Randy Suico, another boxer from Cebu managed by Japanese boxing manager/sportswriter Joe Koizumi is the titleholder in his division.
Philippine Jr. Lightweight champion Bobby Pacquiao, kid brother of People’s Featherweight champion Manny Pacquiao is the No. 1 OPBF contender to the crown of Suico.
Dennis Laurente of the Johnny Elorde stable is the OPBF Lightweight king while Rev Santillan, managed by Rex Salud of Cebu City is the OPBF titleholder in the Welterweight division with another Filipino—Dondon Sultan as the No. 1 contender.
Other highly rated OPBF Filipino boxers include Z. Gorres, No. 1 jr. Bantamweight, Joel Bauya, No. 3 Bantamweight, Reynaldo Tribu, No. 5 Jr. Featherweight, Fernando Montilla, No. 2 Lightweight and Dindo Castanares, No. 5 Jr. Welterweight.
