Pacquiao confident his US lawyers will deliver

Manny Pacquiao expressed high hopes that his highly-paid American lawyers would deliver on the $33 million lawsuit the boxing idol filed against promoter Murad Muhammad.

“Napakalaki ng tiwala ko sa aking mga abogado,” Pacquiao told the Bulletin while dining at the Harbour View restaurant near the Luneta Park with American lawyers Judd Burstein of New York and Keith Davidson of Los Angeles.

Burstein and Davidson arrived Tuesday morning and they both hurried back to the States yesterday with Burstein heading to the Big Apple and Davidson to California.

“Malaki ang aking laban sa kasong ito,” said Pacquiao, whose case will have the first of daily hearings starting June 20 in New York. In preparation for the trial, Pacquiao is flying to the States on Independence Day.

Davidson said Pacquiao, who lost to Erik Morales of Mexico last March 19 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, would remain in the US until after the case is over.

Pacquiao’s lawyers have been assured of a speedy trial by judge Loretta Preska and “by the end of June, there should already be a decision,” said Burstein, a high-profile attorney who represented some of the sport’s biggest names like Lennox Lewis of England and Julio Cesar Chavez of Mexico.

Pacquiao believes Burstein, Davidson and the third member of the team, Nicholas Khan, who opted to stay in Los Angeles, would get the job done so he can immediately train his sights on a comeback fight sometime in the second week of September when he is expected to share the limelight with Morales.
