WORLD Boxing Organization (WBO) Intercontinental super bantamweight champion Ramie Laput defeated Eric Macas by a 10-round unanimous decision in the launching of SGG Promotions’ latest boxing series “Friday Nights Live” at the Cebu Coliseum.
Although Macas was just a last-minute replacement for Phil Angcamor, he gave Laput a good fight.
Macas kept pressing the action and landed a couple of hard shots but Laput used his ring experience and landed the cleaner shots to earn the judges’ nod.
The judges scored the bout, 97-93, twice and, 99-91, in favor of the American Boxing Academy stalwart.
Laput improved to 38 victories and three losses with 18 knockouts, while Macas fell to four wins and four losses with two knockouts.
“Laput has had a big improvement. We are going to get him ready for a big fight. It could be for a world title,” SGG big boss Sammy Gello-ani told Sun.Star Cebu after the fight.
Gello-ani is working on inking a world title fight for Laput, who is ranked fourth in the WBO, next year. He is targeting the WBO super bantamweight world title currently held by Juan Manuel Lopez because he believes that the undefeated Puerto Rican will move up to the featherweight division and relinquish his belt.
On the other hand, Fernando Lumacad (21-2-2, 8 KOs) also escaped with a unanimous decision victory over journeyman Ni?o Suelo (12-14-2, 5 KOs). The scores were 97-93, 97-93 and 99-91.
Australia-based Filipino fighter Ariel Barotillo (3-0-2) impressed the Cebuano boxing fans with a second round technical knockout over upstart Joy Pol (0-2).
