I sat down with the legendary “Sugar” Shane Mosley this evening and got his thoughts on the recent HBO scuffle between himself and Floyd Mayweather Jr, during the Max Kellerman post fight interview.
Kellerman was interviewing Floyd Mayweather after his impressive win over Juan Manuel Marquez, when Mosley and Bernard Hopkins walked up. Mosley explains that he didn’t intrude, he was called up by Kellerman, ” I was standing off to the side, and I heard Kellerman say my name. I looked over at him, and he and Floyd both waved me over there. I thought, cool I guess it’s on, so I walked over there.”
Shane seized his opportunity on national television to make a statement, ” I put him on blast in front of everybody, because he’s always talking, he’s always telling people that I don’t want to fight him. I wanted it clear to everyone that I want him in the ring, let’s see who’s the best.”
Mosley on Pacquiao vs Cotto
” I think Cotto is going to win this fight. I think it’s going to be a much closer fight than the Marquez vs Mayweather fight was. It’s going to be a close fight, but I think Cotto will win this fight.”
Mosley on why he thinks he should get Mayweather before Pacquiao does.
“Because I am the welterweight champion of the world. The number 1 guy, the one that beat Margarito, the one that Mayweather didn’t want to fight. A fight with me and Mayweather would be a much more competitive fight, we are the same size, and we match up better.”
Mosley on how he matches up against Mayweather.
“We match up close with the speed. He has the youth, and I have the experience. It would be a great fight with two of the best fighters in the sport. It would be a “Sugar” Ray Leonard vs Tommy Hearns type of fight. This fight has been brewing for a long time now so I think it’s time we mixed it up and figured out who’s the best.”
