Tell your friends, your neighbors, your dog and your grandmother because the UFC will make Floyd Mayweather Jr tap out this Saturday, I guarantee it.
Less than 48 hours before the fights, and the UFC is predicting a sold out arena for the UFC 103 event live in Texas. The Mayweather Jr fight is not expected to sell out. In fact, for the last month all we have heard about was the dismal ticket sales. The UFC 103 event has become such a huge success that the venue’s general manager is bragging about it:
“It’s the number one sporting gross we’ve ever had and only second behind the Rolling Stones in 2005 (for gross ticket sales for any event),” said American Airlines Center general manager Dave Brown at the UFC 103 pre-fight press conference.
I don’t hear anything coming from the Boxing venue about ticket sales or the fight being sold out. This is a perfect example of why I think the UFC will make Floyd tap out Saturday night.
The UFC has become so popular that even when it puts on events that don’t showcase their biggest draws, they still sell out. Floyd and Golden Boy Promotions insist that they are the biggest draw in boxing. If that’s true, then why hasn’t the fight sold out?
Another huge example of the UFC’s popularity was the season premiere of Ultimate Fighter 10. The show scored the highest ratings ever for Spike TV. And they used it to hype up this UFC 103 event as well.
I believe the sold out UFC 103 event is reflective of the success that the UFC will have in the PPV buys; which will be greater than the PPV buys that the Mayweather/Marquez fight get.
Let’s put it all out there on the table. Here are 5 reasons why Floyd will be tapping on Saturday:
1) UFC will have a sold out show 2) Undercard will be aired live on TV 3) UFC used the season premiere of Ultimate Fighter 10 to hype up the fight 4) UFC is already averaging big PPV buy rates 5) Nobody wants to see a dance, they want to see a fight.
