A few months back the Floyd Mayweather was in London at a press conference here’s a few things he had to say.
What do you think Ricky Hatton should do after his last fight?
“Ricky Hatton’s been in a lot of tough fights, a lot of tough wars before he even got to me. He took alot of big shots when we faced each other. In a fight of that magnitude you train your whole life train a fight like at that level. It’s hard to train to get to that point again. I layed the blue print of how to beat Hatton. What Manny Pacquiao did i’m not shocked, he got caught cold, any fighter can get caught cold”
How did you decide to get back into Boxing?
“I been in the gym a few months, i think the first day back i boxed around 8 rounds. The fans asked me if i was coming back. I thought i’m more famous retired than when i fought. So i was going to the gym every once in awhile with my uncle Roger and worked on the fitness and then thought i may as well stop playing with it and get back in there because it’s still in me. My mom said you wanna fight, you wanna reach 40 fights and i said i’m not going back for just one fight. I talked with Leonard (Ellerbe) & Al (Haymon) they got in Richard (Schaefer) who you you have the best guy”
You mentioned fighting at Wembley who could you see yourself maybe fighting over here?
“We take one step at a time. Just to come over here and put on a performance for the UK fans would be just unreal, unbelievable. That’s what i’m looking for”
You retired as Welterweight champion of the world why come back to fight the Lightweight champion of the world? Is there something about Marquez?
“He’s not really the Lightweight champion, everybody’s forgetting what i said before. I came from 57kg (126 pounds) all the way to 154. So it’s not really a weight thing. It’s more like if i won’t give him the opportunity who will. Before you leave the sport of Boxing you wanna say i took a chance. In the Sport of Boxing your taking a chance anyway so you may take a risk for a small amount when you can take a risk for a large amount”
Before you retired you had a few injury’s how are they now?
“I think with the lay of i’ve given my body a chance to heal. It’s my longest lay off in i don’t know how long. I’ve been fighting since November 1987 and i’ve never had a lay off. But i think with the lay of my body had a chance to heal totally”
