If there’s one thing I really hate, it’s someone riding Manny Pacquio’s jock.
So I wish to announce that I will not be voting for Baguio City Mayor Reinaldo Baustista Jr. in whatever electoral race he is in next. I don’t care if it’s for reelection as mayor or for dogcatcher. (As far as dogcatcher, you wouldn’t even need one if Pacquiao’s hungry father was around.) Bautista latched on to Megamanny’s to get his 15 minutes of fame with an inane statement advising his constituents to stay away from the Pinoy Idol’s training camp.
That’s not exactly the “Stawberry Fields Forever” attitude I was expected at this altitude.
Bautista gets no strawberries from me, only a Bronx cheer or a raspberry. He gets jeers and not applause.
Pacquiao is The People’s Champion. Pacquiao is running for Congress from Sarangani. Someday he may be running for residence at Malacanang Palace.
Who is this tinhorn from the sticks to advise the adoring public to steer clear of Pacman, particularly when, one, no one asked him and, two, it’s said the fighter will have a private security team to protect his privacy and training regimen.
You’ve got to let Manny be Manny, Mr. Mayor. Keep your publicity seeking nose out of it.
Bautista said that Pacquiao chose his city over training in Mexico because “we have better air, better facilities and better water.”
That may or may not be true.
But I know one thing. A mayor of a sizable Mexican city would not be frittering away his time on such nonrelevant activities.
I don’t hear about municipal leader of Caguas, Puerto Rico, piping up about Miguel Cotto’s affairs.
Clean the streets, Bautista. Lower the crime rate. Improve the strawberry crop.
Stay out of boxing.
We’ve got enough problems.
